Considered as a pioneer in locomotives, CMI Locos has been active in the field of rail traction for more than 170 years.

Today, CMI Locos Diesel offers a large range of shunting locomotives equipped with a hydrostatic transmission, particularly well suited to haul heavy loads on :

  • for industrial sites (steel plants, heavy mechanical industries, chemical and petrochemical plants, mines and quarries, cement works and glassworks, plantations, paper manufactures ...)
  • for national and private railways
  • for urban transports (underground)

The CMI locomotives are powerful, compact, sturdy, environmental-friendly and are easy adapted to the specific needs of the customers. Thousands of CMI locomotives, manufactured in conformity with norms UIC, AAR, CEI, EN,… are operating worldwide. They are used and certified by state railways namely SNCB (Société des Chemins de Fer Belges), SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français) and CFL (Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois).

Locomotives modernization

Besides the manufacturing of new locomotives, CMI Locos Diesel both designs and undertakes the modernization, the upgrading and the refurbishing of elderly locomotives, manufactured by CMI or by other manufacturers :

  • Installation of the hydrostatic transmission and replacement of the obsolete main components (Diesel engine, cooling system, reducing gears and wheels, driving cab (ergonomical) and hoods, braking systems, and electrical and electronical components
  • Implementation of the remote control
  • Installation of various improvement kits (antislip and antiskid device, automatic brake, automatic coupling, lubrication of wheel flanges, air dryer, dead man device …)
