With the benefit of its long standing experience in steam generators, CMI Energy also provides equipment for high capacity thermo-solar electric power stations.
CMI Energy designs steam generators for concentrating solar thermal power plants using the “solar tower” technique. Installed at the top of the tower, CMI Energy’s receivers, real heart of the plant, collect the energy from the sun reflected by numerous individually controlled mirrors (or heliostats) located on the ground. The collected energy is either directly used in steam turbine production or stored in a heat transfer fluid such as oil or molten thermal salts.
Patents have been taken out for these developments.
Further to the design and supply of this kind of steam generators, CMI’s expertise in power generation also includes:
- Design, supply, assembly and commissioning of HRSGs and industrial boilers;
- Modernization and repair of existing boilers;
- Onsite or workshop maintenance services.
- The solar receiver generates high pressure superheated steam (120 bar and 530 °C) for a much higher steam cycle efficiency, compared to saturated steam cycle.
- The cavity concept reduces heat losses, improving the efficiency as well.
- An additional reheater is possible for enhanced efficiency.
- Superheated steam allows the use of a classic steam turbine.
- The development aims at the highest possible power, from 50 MW electric power and above together with generation of high pressure saturated steam to feed steam accumulators for overnight electricity generation.
